Distant Shores The Extraordinary War Brides
May 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15 | 8:00 pm. and May 9, 16 | 2:00 pm
A story woven from actual stories of Pickering area war brides.
These women, who left family and everything familiar to follow love thousands of miles to a strange country, don’t think their stories are special. This poignant and funny one act play tells an extraordinarily different story.

Backwoods’ newest writing team is pleased to announce a brand new script for this summer’s Whodunit?. This year’s answer to this annual question, is “Don’t Say Macbeth!”
Collectively referred to as the ‘Wyrd Sisters’, the team consists of Karen Aiken, Mary Delaney, Julie Oakes and Angela Steyn, all seasoned script-writers who have thoroughly enjoyed their coven meetings, er, script writing sessions over the winter. All four are PMV volunteers and two (Angela and Mary) are also education staff. Between them, they have also contributed to the writing of “A Spirit Walk”, “A
Wolf’s Tale”, “Mutton Veiled as Lamb” and “The Chickens Come Home to Roost”.
The name, ‘Wyrd Sisters’, pays homage to the witches in “Macbeth”, which forms the basis of their first collaboration. If you pronounce it as you would ‘Byrd’, the play on words is self-evident.
Their next project will be based on research gleaned at a recent workshop at Parkwood Estate in Oshawa. The Sisters will reunite to prepare a script for Backwoods Players’ first person performance at the hugely popular “Basement Tour” in October.
