REQUIREMENTS

DIGITAL IMAGE REQUIREMENTS AND STANDARDS Image Format: jpeg Recommended Colour Profile: sRGB Image Size: a maximum 1024 pixels on each side (1024 x 1024 pixels); minimum – the maker shall ensure that the image is of sufficient size to be judged effectively and, for rectangular images (either in a horizontal or vertical format), at least one of the sides should fully fill the 1024 width or height with the others falling proportionately. The maximum size for an image to be uploaded is 2 MB. The original image (or images or image elements) and digital manipulation must be the work of the entrant. No image shall display any titling or maker identification which could serve to identify the maker. Images not conforming to the above standards may be disqualified.

EXHIBIT REQUIREMENTS All images must be appropriately presented, and be either framed, facemount to acrylic or on gallery style canvas. Each image must have a minimum .635 cm (1/4") O– or D–rings or screw eyes (not saw hooks) on both sides of the back of the entry, placed not more than one-third down from the top. (Hooks used to hang the images go through these rings or eyes.) Maximum width – single image or dyptych, including any framing, is 102 cm (40") and maximum weight, including glass, frame, etc. is 9.1 kg (20 lbs.). Minimum image hanging width is 20 cm (8"). PURCHASE OF ENTRIES Anyone wishing to purchase an image on display at the exhibition will be directed to contact PineRidge Arts Council (PRAC). PRAC will retain a 10% commission on all sales at the show. All cheques for work sold must be made out to PineRidge Arts Council (PRAC). All applicable taxes are the responsibility of the artist. PUBLICITY PRAC reserves the right to photograph the entrants and their images for publicity, web posting and other not-for-profit purposes. The entrant retains ownership of all images and all other rights to their subsequent use.


contactPineRidge Arts Council is proud to once again be part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, the largest annual photography event in the world, and a premiere cultural experience in Canada, with over 200 exhibitions and happenings from May 1-31 in the Greater Toronto Area.

Founded in 1997, CONTACT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and fostering photography and related media with an annual Festival in May and year-round programming in the CONTACT Gallery.

CONTACT’s community initiatives foster a wide range of interest in photography and enable meaningful exchanges between the people who make and present art, and those that view it.

The foundation of CONTACT was based on an open call to participate, enabling emerging artists and photographers to show their work concurrent with exhibitions of works by leading professionals. Today the Open Exhibitions continue to encourage neighbourhood involvement at local galleries, community centres, educational and international institutions, cafes, retail stores, and many alternative locations.

Rules and Regulations

DETAILS AND RULES PLEASE READ CAREFULLY OVERVIEW A maximum of two (2) entries will be accepted from each entrant. Images are to be submitted electronically. For judging, all images will be placed in a single, non-specific category. Approximately fifty (50) images will be chosen for exhibition with a maximum of two (2) from any entrant. If selected for the exhibition, an image shall be appropriately prepared (see requirements) by the entrant. Monetary prizes will be awarded.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST To enter the exhibition, please complete the attached Expression of Interest form, (or register on-line) attach the required entry fee, and mail both to the address indicated on the back of this form for receipt no later than February 29, 2020.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND SUBMISSION OF IMAGES Upon receipt of the completed Expression of Interest form and entry fee, the entrant will be emailed instructions on March 5 as to how to submit up to two (2) images electronically. All images must be submitted no later than Saturday, March 14, 2020.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE
Only entrants whose photographs have been selected to be exhibited (i.e. hung in the exhibition) will be notified by e-mail on March 29. Once notified entrants will be responsible for appropriately preparing the image(s) for hanging in accordance with the specified exhibit requirements

AWARDS PRESENTATION AND OPENING RECEPTION The Awards Presentation and Opening Reception will be held on Th urs day, May 7, beginning at 7 pm at the McLean Community Centre, 95 Magill Drive, Ajax. All exhibition entrants are encouraged to attend.

EXHIBITION HOURS The images will be on exhibit from April 27 to May 30 during the hours 7 am to 9 pm in the Atrium at the McLean Community Centre.

PICKUP AT CLOSE OF EXHIBITION
All images in the exhibition are to be picked up on Sunday, May 31 between 1 pm and 3 pm There is no secure storage after the abovenoted date and time.

PHOTOGRAPHERS’ ELIGIBILITY
The Juried Photography Exhibition is open to anyone 13 years of age and older. PHOTOGRAPHERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES Reasonable efforts to protect all entries in the exhibition will be taken. However, PRAC, the Town of Ajax, and the Sponsors cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to any entry, howsoever caused. Entrants may wish to consider insuring the work they submit. Entrants should be confident that they can arrange for exhibit entries to be delivered and picked up on the required dates and at the required times All exhibit entries must remain in the McLean Community Centre until May 31, when the exhibition concludes.

2020 Juror Norm Ullock

Norm UllockNorm Ullock
is an award-winning photographer. In 2012, he received an "Award of Merit", from the International Glennie Memorial Nature Salon for one of his wildlife portraits. He is a member of the Oshawa Camera Club and has twice been runner up for "Photographer of The Year" and he has twice won the Oshawa Camera Club "Photographer of the Year" award. In 2018 he tied for First as Photographer of the Year in the Ontario Council of Camera Clubs (OCCC) Annual "Open Challenge" Competition, which had over 3,000 entries. Norm creates images, and has received awards, in virtually all categories including, Nature, Landscapes, Portraits, Creative & Altered Reality, Pictorial, Street & Architecture.

Norm loves to travel and his photography has taken him to 26 countries, 39 U.S. States & 9 Canadian Provinces.

Norm is very involved in the Photography Community. He served as Club Secretary for the Oshawa Camera club for 4 years. Norm is an OCCC accredited judge. He is also responsible for the Oshawa CC's Judge Training Program. He is currently Judge's Chair for the Ontario Council of Camera Clubs, a provincial organization with member clubs across Ontario. Since 2015 his creativity and work has brought about several positive improvements to the Competitions and Judging process in the OCCC such as:

• Designed and implemented a system to measure judging accuracy.

• Authored the OCCC Judge Training course which Norm co-teaches.

• Created a way to identify promising candidates to train as future judges.

• Implemented a system to develop new "Judges in Training" with a 1-2 year program, so they can earn their OCCC Judge accreditation credentials.

• Created and implemented processes and manuals to improve the OCCC judging process.

• Achieved more consistent and accurate Judging results in OCCC competitions

In 2019 Norm was awarded the OCCC "Technical Achievement Award" to recognize his accomplishments to improve the competition and judging process within the Ontario Council and their member clubs. He judges and lectures regularly on topics about improving photography and competition skills.
