The largest educational
initiative in Canada dedicated to improving the lives
and learning capacity of Canadian children by teaching
the curriculum through the arts. This is known as
"arts infused learning".

ArtsSmarts National Partnership visit http:

What is ArtsSmarts Student
Success?
ArtsSmarts has partnered
with the Durham Board through Student Success.
(Student Success is the Ontario Ministry of
Education program and initiatives directed to meet the
needs of all students from Grades 7-12).
This partnership offers
opportunities for students to learn core curriculum
through The Arts (Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre,
Visual Art, Literary Art, etc.)

How is an artist chosen for
a project?
Teachers apply for project
funding. Once approved, teachers choose an artist
that they feel will successfully help them deliver the
targeted curriculum. For example, a visual artist
who works with performance sculpture was partnered with
a science teacher. Through collaboration, the
teacher and artist worked on a plan to deliver a
science unit on simple machines by building
"moveable" sculptures. Students met
Ministry curriculum expectations by creating the
artwork. This type of learning is called
"arts infused" learning.

will conduct a Saturday
seminar that will appeal to novice art lovers, seasoned
collectors and artists. This one day session will be
held on October 13 from 9:30 to 4:30 at Town Hall 1873
in Port Perry and is called ‘But is it Art?:
Critiquing Art For Artists and Art Lovers’. The
fun and informative day, presented in partnership with
Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery, will help us learn to
evaluate art and to understand how work is likely to be
viewed by a gallery or jury. Attendees will learn to
critique their own and other’s work in a
supportive and objective manner. Instructor Audra Noble
will discuss the elements and principles of design,
including exercises that will enable people to evaluate
art on an intelligent and deeper level. This course is
perfect for practicing artists, arts patrons, arts
administrators, members of arts organizations and
individuals who want to learn more about art
appreciation. The seminar (lunch included) costs $55
plus GST per person, with a $5 materials fee payable to
the instructor. SCA members receive a $10 course
discount. Anyone interested in participating should
reserve a seat by contacting Meta4 Gallery at
