Vanessa Dion Fletcher is Lenape and Potawatomi neurodiverse artist; her family is from Eelūnaapèewii Lahkèewiitt (displaced from Lenapehoking) and European settlers. Relative Gradient includes recent work that expands the possibilities of contemporary quillwork. She transforms this surface embroidery technique into textile design and vinyl imagery, playing with geometric shapes and repeating patterns. Taken together, these works build on Vanessa’s continued exploration of what it means to live in an Indigenous, gendered body with a neurodiverse mind.

Sept 23 to Dec 10 ~ VAC
Spoiled Milk
Rah Eleh is an Iranian-Candian video, net, and performance artist based in Toronto. Her upcoming solo show Spoiled Milk will be exhibited across all galleries at the VAC from Sept 23 - Dec 10, 2023.
One of the major video works in this installation parodies and reimagines the classic game show Jeopardy!. The clues in this game show exposed coded internet dialects, trends, and memes that far-right hate groups use to disseminate political ideologies and animosity online.
The work features a series of characters performed by Eleh. The characters deconstruct racial stereotypes while acting as a pointed (though humorous!) critique of internet extremism. The rest of the exhibition builds on these themes to explore concepts of ethnic futurism in the digital age.
